The BUSHIDO knife is a memorial to Jim 'Ronin' Harrison (1936-2020), one of the founding fathers of American karate, kickboxing, and MMA. Harrison was called "one of the most dangerous men in the world" by Bruce Lee and has been praised by the likes of Colonel Roger 'Ike' Slaughter, ret. (Special Forces, Commanding Officer, Delta Force) and Commander Richard Smithers (U.S. Navy Commanding Officer SEAL Team 5 & Commanding Officer Buds).
In addition to training elite special operators, Jim Harrison spent a lifetime teaching law enforcement and fighting champions from every major style of martial arts. It’s rare to be acclaimed an expert in multiple martial sports (judo, jujitsu, karate, kickboxing) as well as by the black ops/street-survival community; yet Jim Harrison was an icon in both worlds.
The BUSHIDO will be a knife every bit as tough and versatile as Jim Harrison and the reputation he built over his 67 years of involvment in a multitude of warrior arts. Jim Harrison's notoriety in the world of martial arts, law enforcement, real world combat/threat elimination and the Special Forces community promises to have a ready-made marketing base for a blade bearing his name.
The Bushido designed by Brent L. Anderson, includes his patent pending technology. The technology can be integrated into a countless number of folding knives, saws and other tools where a rugged multi-positional lock is desired.
“While I work on marketing my unique technology I am simultaneously working to manufacture the BUSHIDO memorial knife. The prototypes couldn’t have turned out any better, McGinley Manufacturing did a great job!” explains Anderson.
McGinley Manufacturing of Glenrock, Wyoming provided engineering services and produced the first working prototypes using D2 steel for the blade and CNC milled aluminum for the handle. Anderson came up with the main design for The BUSHIDO and received feedback from Thor Harrison, son of the late Jim Harrison, and Travis Boggs, President of the Bushidokan Yudanshakai. Travis, Thor and Brent all operate Bushidokan Certified Training Centers which were created by Jim Harrison to carry on the Bushidokan legacy.
A small but significant improvement came from Thor and Travis. Jim Harrison had the practice of sharpening the flat side on his knives near the tip if it wasn’t a double-edged knife. This helps a blade glance off of bones and prevents the tip from getting stuck. Anderson took that input and modified his Hawk-Nosed Tanto™ blade design. The blade also includes a deep blood groove to accommodate its tactical use as a lethal defensive tool.
Lock position 1 (see pictures) provides a punch knife that can be used in a boxing posture with rapid fire punching techniques. Lock position 2 emulates the angle and reverse grip used with popular Karambit style knives while lock position 3 provides a typical lock blade position for the utility of an every day carry pocket knife.
“I’m open to working with an established knife manufacturer but I am also exploring the possibility of a crowdfunding campaign to do a production run of The BUSHIDO.” says Anderson. Mr. Harrison’s widow, Carol Harrison, is willing to allow Jim’s trademarked signature to be laser etched on the knife to increase its appeal to his many friends and collectors.
The Bushido celebrates Mr. Harrison and the Bushidokan Legacy
Since 1964, Jim Harrison’s Bushidokan has been a leader in self-defense and sport martial arts including full contact karate, kick boxing, judo and jujitsu. It is recognized as one of the United States first “mixed martial arts” before “MMA” was even a buzzword. In fact Harrison was a true “Triple Crown” National Champion in Judo, Karate/Taekwondo and Kickboxing plus, an undefeated “Asian Challenge” Kickboxing/Full-Contact Taekwondo/Muay-Thai Champion. When Jim Harrison conceived the Bushidokan System in the early 1960's, he focused on practical and effective self-defense using the best of striking/kicking, choking/throwing and locking/breaking. Bushidokan continues to evolve using the best of the best in techniques and tactics.
The practical and effective self-defenses of Bushidokan has gained the system its highest respect and notoriety from the world’s most elite warriors including Green Berets, Delta Force, Navy SEALS, Special Forces, and law enforcement agencies (world-wide). Other instructors of every style and discipline have long respected Harrison and Bushidokan. The following are just a handful of quotes that highlight the reputation of Jim ‘Ronin’ Harrison:
